When selecting a location for your fountain, make sure an electrical outlet with a G.F.I. (Ground fault interrupter) is nearby. All fountains need a concrete foundation of 4 to 6 inches in depth and larger than the width of the base (free standing fountains), and almost as wide as the largest bowl or basin. Water in the valley is very hard, so calcium deposits are normal. At Silverado Building Materials we carry safe chemicals that will help with calcium and algae. Bleach will harm the finish and is not safe for birds and animals. To prevent your fountain's pump from clogging, purchase a fish net from your local pet supply store, to strain or fish out any falling debris from trees. Winter time is a good time to drain, clean and dry your fountain. Cover fountains with a fountain cover. A cold freeze can crack cement bowls. We offer a wide variety of fountains. When you visit Silverado, be sure to listen to the fountain you're considering. Each has a distinctive sound, and some are silent.
